Gramma's Chicken Coop

7" x 10"
Ink and Graphite

An 1832 land grant deed from President Van Buren gave 160 acres to great-great-grandfather Mancour in Grand Blanc, Michigan just south of Flint. He sent for his sweetheart and when she came, they married and worked the land. The land was farmed until much of it was slowly sold off.
I wanted to capture some of the ambiance and simplicity of farm life in the country. "Grammas Chicken Coop" was one of the last remaining building on the farm. It was burned down because it could not stand any longer and my studio was built in its place. David replaced the old barn with a new one right beside the "Old Well Pump." I hope these pen & graphite sketches help us appreciate a simpler time of life.
